Review

Even as a mid-range pair of speakers, the Alpine R-S68 is definitely one of the best 6×8 car speakers in terms of bass in the car audio industry. Their new multi-layered fiber woofer cone is the secret to their tremendous bass quality.

But it’s not all about the bass, the R-Series speakers are equipped with a ring-type tweeter coil that increased their overall efficiency and helps them achieve great tonal balance across their sound band. And no worries about the highs being too shrill, the silk tweeter adds the needed amount of smoothness to even out the sound and bring out all the details and depth.

These speakers are designed to be compatible with almost all factory-built car stereo systems, but if you incorporate an outboard amplifier, you’ll realize just how powerful these speakers are. Also, with an RMS power of 100 Watts, you’re guaranteed a huge and very dynamic sound with insane volume that will rock the roof of the place.

Alpine has incorporated Wave Guide technology into their R-Series speakers to help eliminate phase distortion and enhance the overall sound dispersion for a better in-car experience. Also, you might be familiar with the distortion that’s resulted by cone flexing. Well, Alpine has found a way to get rid of that by incorporating an eXpander ring that helps stiffen the cone.

The R-S68’s design is able to give your car a new lease on life with its great aesthetics. The grill is of metal mesh construction that’s streamlined to give out that classic look we all love. Mesh also helps provide extra sturdiness to the edge of the grill to protect it against any intrusions and increase its longevity.

The overall performance of these speakers is simply incredible. However, be prepared to put in some work for the installation process as it’s not as easy as you may think. I highly recommend amping those bad boys up and running a subwoofer alongside to achieve the best results.
